The 79th Annual Tour of the
Once again, the Beacon Hill Garden Club invites you to visit the Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill. This ever-popular tour marks the only day of the year that the public may enter our members’ private urban landscapes, widely celebrated for their character and charm, and none of which is visible from the street.
Continuing BHGC’s long tradition, 12 member gardens, plus four ribbon gardens, will be open. We picture to the right one additional garden which will be seen only here. We do so to salute our beloved oldest member whose urban gardening genius and philosophy inspires us. Her hidden masterpiece, she once noted, had “designed itself within its ‘bones,’ all the plants deciding whether to be happy where they are.” We share in their happiness to be with her and celebrate her 60th anniversary with the club.
And in that spirit, we happily invite you again to our Hidden Gardens to see how we have addressed our urban challenge of combining horticultural with the architectural elements of a National Historic District. We hope you will enjoy the small wonders that can be wrought despite New England weather, space limitations, and shade. An insider aside: Suitable shoes are strongly recommended!
Tour proceeds support more than 30 local, regional, and national civic and environmental causes.
