Historic Photographs of Beacon Hill

To provide a context for the Hidden Gardens within a National Historic District, our website features several historic photographs of Beacon Hill drawn from the extensive photographic collection of The Bostonian Society (TBS), Boston’s historical society. The TBS photographic collection may be seen at www.bostonhistory.org. You will also note that TBS operates the Old State House Museum (OSH) located only a few minutes walk from the eastern boundary of Beacon Hill. TBS has kindly offered a 50 percent discount on the OSH admissions price on both May 15 and May 16. Please present your Hidden Gardens Tour ticket at the OSH desk to receive the special admission price.

Photographs of the Hidden Gardens

In addition to Hidden Garden photographs from BHGC’s own archives, we show throughout our website the work of two pre-eminent New England photographers, Peter Vanderwarker (www.vanderwarker.com) and Tom Lingner (www.theablelens.com). Peter and Tom collaborated to produce the photography for BHGC’s fourth edition of Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill. A leading photographer of institutional, residential, and corporate sites, Tom Lingner has done work for The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Harvard University. Peter Vanderwarker is among America’s leading architectural photographers; he is also an author and lecturer on how urban architecture and landscapes reflect the ideals and cultural aspirations of a city. His photographs may be seen in the galleries of several local institutions including the Boston Athenaeum, MIT Museum, and the Boston University Art Gallery.

BHGC’s 21st Century Website

Beacon Hill Garden Club wishes to express its appreciation and enthusiasm for the excellent and creative work of CollegiateCoders, founded in 2007 by two Georgetown University students. Without them this website would not have been possible. They have enabled a great leap for us in providing 21st century services to our members and to thousands of Hidden Gardens visitors. They worked closely and personally with us to develop a custom website rich in photographic images and replete with an e-store to process ticket and other purchases online. For more information about custom webdesign, affordable to even a small organization like ours, do contact them at www.collegiatecoders.com.
